MYTH: After another contentious election, Americans are destined to remain politically divided.

FACT: Political differences don't have to prevent us from working together toward common goals.

Yesterday's midterm elections brought significant changes to the political landscape. Democrats won majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, including victories in states that have traditionally supported Republicans.

But beyond which party won or lost, I believe there's a much bigger question worth asking:  Can we begin finding common ground again?

Our country faces challenges that affect Americans regardless of political affiliation: the cost of living, housing affordability, economic stability, healthcare, and the future we want for our children and grandchildren. These aren't exclusively Democratic or Republican concerns. They're American concerns.

Throughout my 23 years in real estate, I've worked with people from different backgrounds, generations, and walks of life. They don't always share the same opinions or priorities. But I've learned something important: People don't have to agree on everything to accomplish something meaningful together.

Successful negotiations require listening, understanding different perspectives, respecting others, and sometimes finding a compromise that allows everyone to move forward. Wouldn't it be encouraging to see more of that spirit in Washington? Election results alone cannot repair the divisions in our country. That requires leadership, mutual respect, accountability, and a genuine willingness to work together.

My hope is that this new chapter in American government becomes an opportunity for both parties to focus less on political conflict and more on practical solutions that improve people's lives.

The real myth isn't that we disagree. It's that disagreement means we can never work together.

Perhaps the first step toward a more united America is remembering that we have more shared interests than our political differences sometimes suggest. What do you think? Can we disagree politically and still move forward together?
